PROJECT GOALS

The research and exhibition project of the Zagreb City Museum entitled Zagreb industrial heritage: history, state of affairs, outlook has gathered experts of various areas (historians, art historians, town planners, architects, conservators, archivists, curators of museum collections) in their search of common goals:
  • to research, evaluate, document and present the industrial heritage of the city of Zagreb, from economic, historical, social, town planning, architectural and technological point of view
  • to influence building of positive public opinion on industrial heritage being a part of national and universal heritage, a part of common European identity and an important segment in the development of human civilization
  • to set up a warning about the danger of destroying valuable industrial heritage structures on attractive locations, due to the powerful interests of capital
  • to update and systematically question sustainability methods applied to industrial heritage in the city of Zagreb
  • to provide solutions for a high-quality reuse of valuable industrial structures, meeting the needs of a contemporary society

How to reach the goals?
Through:
  • cycles of study exhibitions which will present a reflection of industrial development on the city of Zagreb and its inhabitants since 1860s until today
  • professional meetings which will point to actual issues and discuss the future of industrial heritage in the City
  • workshops organized in cooperation with organizations of civil society, to provide solutions for creative area reuse
  • lectures and presentations which give insight into foreign examples on reuse of the content of industrial heritage structures in urban areas
  • publications (exhibition catalogues, monographs, guidebooks, on-line publications and inventories) which promote protection and high-quality analysis of industrial heritage, and inform the public
  • professional guidance which enable direct contact of visitors with industrial heritage
